In a supermarket there are usually different roles/types of workers. There is usually a manager who runs the supermarket and then there are store clerks/employees who usually do the general work. Cashiers are the people who help the customers pay for their goods at the check-out counter.

"Staff" is a general term for an employee at a store whereas "shop assistant" & "sales clerk" are usually used with staff in retail stores.

▪ Clerk *A person employed at a supermarket or bank that does admin duties. ▪ Cashier *A person who operates the cash register and handling the receiving of payments at a supermarket or bank.

You may define someone by referring to the place they work - 'a shop worker,' a supermarket employee'. Or you could talk about what they do: 'a cashier,' 'a shelf filler,' 'a manager'.

Anyone working in a store or a supermarket or ion"retail" generally is considered to be STAFF. These workers are not highly paid and do not enjoy much job security. However as a customer I would be lost without them:-D "If I cannot find what I need at the store, I usually just ask the staff for directions!"

In the UK we would call a person who works at a store a shop keeper or a staff member. In the USA the name given to such an employee would be a store clerk.

A sales person helps restock empty shelves .Take inventory of stock and marking price tags. They prepare displays based on the season.
