ブランド偽物:マフラーって英語でなんて言うの？

私も実際に疑問に思った一人です！買い物していて、厚手の[ニット](http://eikaiwa.vntkg.com/uknow/questions/53480/)のざっくりしたマフラーのタグに、scarfと値段が書いてあり、間違いかなと思って、店員さんに値段を聞いたほどです！首に巻くものはscarfだよって、わざわざ教えてくれました。マフラーも[スカーフ](http://eikaiwa.vntkg.com/uknow/questions/61052/)も同じカタカナだから、ややこしいですよね。

これは単語単体のご質問ですので、英語では[ファッション](http://eikaiwa.vntkg.com/uknow/questions/32815/)の一つの “マフラー” は単に “scarf” と言います。日本語の “マフラー” というカタカナは英語を由来としたものに間違えはありませんが、英語では車についている排気管の “muffler” になっちゃいます。確か英国の方では “silencer” という地域もあったような・・・

これはよくある和製英語ですので注意！ファッションで首にまく日本語の「マフラー」は英語では”scarf”、ちなみに複数形だと”scarves”（スカーヴス）になりますー！

薄手のマフラーはpashmina(パシュミナ)と呼びます。特に防寒目的というより、女性がファッションの一部として使うアイテムです。アニメ「とっとこハム太郎」に登場するハムちゃんずの1人、ピンクのマフラーがトレードマークのマフラーちゃんは、英語版「HAMUTARO」では名前がPashmina になっていました。
